I think that her moving the business to her home was a good idea. She will have everthing she needs to conduct business at her house instead of having to go door to door and face the possibility of not having what she needs. She obviously posseses the technical skills to complete the job. Human skills will be very important in helping her deal with cutomers and possible employees. With the correct balance of all of these skills she should be able to run a very successful business with the support of the Kiva Foundation

Like you said, planning is very important for any business. My dad lived in Kabul, Afghanistan for a year and was a frequent visitor to the markets there. One of his favorite things were the brightly colored rugs, tapatries, and fabrics. These things are used by the people of Afghanistan in their everyday lives, so the demand is there. Buying a new machine would allow the recipient to increase output and therefore increase her revenue. She should set realistic goals and make plans (outlines) to help her achieve those goals. If she makes good plans and sticks to them, she should be able to make the money to repay the loan.

I read a couple of the comments from other people in the class about this post saying that it was not a good idea for her to open a salon in her country. I disagree. The post states that she is requesting a loan to help meet the demand of her already established clients. Her business is established, and if the demand is there, I agree that she should persue her dream and keep the business going. If she is a good manager, she will listen to her customers needs, and if she meets them and does a good job at it, they will tell their friends, and she can build her business through word of mouth.

I read tshall's post and felt the need to clarify a statement I made in my post. The country of Cambodia is the third most corrupt nation in terms of political standing, not their people in general. My recipient recieved their loan in mid October and has already paid back sixteen percent. Through their Khmer religion, the people of Cambodia have a very strong sense of community. If one of the members defaults on their part of the loan, one of their fellow members would pick up the slack. I hope this has cleared up some of the confusion.

I also agree on how if she plans correctly she will be successful. I think you always need a long term and short goal to have a successful business. You did a good job.

The omnipotent view, I think, definitely applies to her situation. I'm sure being in a small town means that she is probably one of the only ones, if not the only one that does what she does. It is up to her to keep up a good reputation and business-like manner, because if she falters, so does her business. A lot of people count on her and she has a lot of responsibility.
